Is A Siding Replacement Worth The Investment?

Often siding contractors will tell you that you need to entirely reside your home when a small targeted siding repair could be conducted. This common dishonest practice has made knowing when you need a full reside very difficult for homeowners—often ending in a waste of time and money. There are, however, some of the times when a siding replacement may be a better option for some homeowners.

Older Defective And Hazardous Siding

Several types and brands of siding (LP, Asbestos Shingles, EFIS, and Lead) are defective. They can cause considerable problems or are hazardous if not removed and replaced. If you have one of these types of siding and it is showing significant signs of wear, it might be a good idea to think about a siding replacement. Although just having one of these types of siding alone, in generally good condition may not warrant a total replacement.

Large Damage

If over half of your home is showing signs of damage, it may be more cost-effective to get a full reside. If a large amount of siding on your home is deteriorating, there might be issues with how the siding was installed or the type of material used. Siding can typically last anywhere from 15 to 40 years if maintained properly. If your siding is older and cupping or not holding paint, it is probably time to invest in a full reside.

Style Change

If you are tired of the upkeep and maintenance or want a stunning exterior, fresh siding can give your home an updated, modern appearance. One of the conventional style changes is phasing out siding that does not hold up well in the northwest like vinyl siding. Replacing your older faded vinyl siding with James Hardie fiber cement siding can increase your home value, offer more paint and style options, less maintenance, and increase your home’s energy efficiency.

Construction Defects

If your home has a significant construction defect that requires a large number of renovations and works to be completed to the home’s structure, it might be a good idea to upgrade your siding during this process.
